Targeted Sunday opening expands access to oral healthcare for Medi-Cal & uninsured children who experience barriers to care during normal operating hours
SAN MATEO, CA August 23, 2022 – Sunday, August 21, 2022 in San Mateo County, Western Dental & Orthodontics, a leading center in accessible oral health, held a free oral health screening where nearly 30 boys and girls were screened for cavities and other oral health issues. The event also helped to educate parents regarding their children’s oral health and promote the importance of dental health care from an early age.
This free oral health evaluation, which took place from 8 am to 4 pm at the Western Dental location in San Mateo, was attended by one of the company’s top dental professionals, Dr. Prerna Vijan, who, with her extensive background and experience examining children, was able to successfully complete the oral consultation of each of the young patients.
“There are two components to our screenings,” says Dr. Prerna Vijan, who is also a Managing Dentist at the San Mateo Western Dental location. “First, is the prevention of future oral health issues through education and early diagnosis; and second, the treatment and prevention of progression of oral issues already present in the children”.
The event was organized in partnership with the San Mateo County Health, Family Health Services Division. The goal was to increase children’s oral health screenings throughout the county, especially kids at our lower-income schools.
